Diagnosis: Forewing length 15mm in male. Barsaurea apatani sp. nov. ( Fig.1 View FIGURES 1–5 )closely resembles B.phaeoxanthia in its colouration and forewing markings but is distinct by the grey colour of head and vertex, brownish frons, greyish collar and patagia and darker forewing markings covering the marginal area, whereas in B. phaeoxanthia ( Figs. 2, 3 View FIGURES 1–5 ), the head, vertex, frons, collar, patagia and marginal area of forewing are yellowish. In male genitalia of B. apatani ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6–10 ), the uncus is shorter and more dilated subapically; the valva is shorter, broader and almost rectangular and the vesica with two diverticula, each with a cluster of strong cornuti apically, whereas in the male genitalia of B. phaeoxanthia ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 6–10 ), the uncus is longer and subapically less dilated, the valva is long and narrower at apex and the vesica bears a single cluster of 1–3 cornuti apically.

Distribution: So far known from its type locality only.

Etymology: The name of this species is derived from the local tribe ‘Apatani’ that inhabits the type locality of the species.
