( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 )

Description. Female. Length of body (excluding ovipositor sheath) 10.8 mm, of setose part of ovipositor sheath 11.0 mm, of fore wing 9.2 mm.

Head. Antennal segments 39, length of third segment 1.2 times fourth segment; length of third, fourth and penultimate segments 3, 2.3 and 1.2 times their width, respectively; length of maxillary palp 1.5 times height of head; head in frontal view 0.9 times as long as wide; length of eye in dorsal view 0.8 times temple; length of malar space 0.9 times basal width of mandible and 0.4 times maximum width of eye; POL:OD:OOL = 11:7:17; vertex smooth and concave medially; temple punctate, but crenulate near mandible; frons crest-shaped elevated and rugose-punctate laterally, medial depression smooth with a protruding lamella ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 I); face coarsely reticulatepunctate; clypeus convex, reticulate-punctate dorsally, and ventrally smooth.

Mesosoma. Length twice its height; pronope shallow, spindle-shaped and with a medial carina; side of pronotum medially coarsely crenulate, dorsally punctate and remainder coarsely rugose; notauli narrow and deep, crenulate, coarsely rugose-punctate posteriorly; scutellum rugose-punctate; precoxal sulcus complete, densely punctate, dorsally more or less crenulate; scutellar sulcus with one carina; metanotum with a complete median carina; propodeum coarsely rugose-reticulate.

Wings. Fore wing: about 3 times as long as wide. 1-M curved; pterostigma 4 times as long as wide; r:3-SR:SR1 = 10: 17: 60; 2-SR:3-SR:r-m = 20:18:13; 1-M:m-cu = 25:13; SR1 almost straight; cu-a inclivous, interstitial; 1- CU1 absent; r-m inclivous. Hind wing: 1-M:1r-m = 18:26; cu-a inclivous.

Legs. Length of fore tarsus 1.2 times fore tibia; length of femur, tibia and basitarsus of hind leg 3.4 (excluding tooth), 8.6 and 5 times their width, respectively; length of outer and inner hind tibia spur 0.20 and 0.18 times basitarsus, respectively; fore and middle femora with a wide flange ventrally and long setae; hind femur robust, ventrally largely rugose, with a tooth submedially and small subbasally ( Figs 25 View FIGURE 25 D-F).

Metasoma. First tergite widened posteriorly, rugose-reticulate, dorsal carinae distinct in basal half of tergite and laterope very deep and large; length of first tergite 1.8 times its apical width ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 C); second tergite concentric punctate-striate, but medially smooth ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 C); ovipositor sheath 2.3 times as long as metasoma, 2.3 times as long as hind tibia, 2.6 times as long as mesosoma and 1.2 times as long as fore wing.

Colour. Black; basal half of antenna yellowish white (but scape largely brownish) and remainder dark brown; palpi and legs (including apex of hind tibia, but coxae dark brown) yellow; tegulum mainly dark brown and humeral plate brownish yellow; metasoma ventrally yellowish brown, but apical third dark brown; pterostigma and most veins dark brown; wing membrane faintly fumose, with darker patch below pterostigma.

Variation. The paratype is very similar to the holotype.

Male. Unknown.

Material examined. Holotype, ♀, China, Guangxi prov., Wuming, Daming Mt., 25.V.1963, Jikun Yang , No. 201106064 ( ZJUH) . Paratype: 1♀, China, Guangxi prov., Longsheng, Neicujiang, 840 m, 7.VI.1963, Shuyong Wang , No. IOZ(E)1689926 ( IZAS) .

Comparative diagnosis. This new species is similar to H. nipponica ( Watanabe, 1972) , but differs in having a yellowish white antennal band (antenna without a yellowish white band in H. nipponica ); the scutellum punctate (rugose) and fore and middle femora with a wide flange medio-ventrally (without a ventral flange).

Host. Unknown.

Etymology. The name is derived from “ vari ” (Latin for “different”) and “ femora ” (Latin for plural of “femur”), because of all femora have variable protuberances ventro-medially.

Distribution. China (Guangxi).
