18. Schendyla (Schendyloides) psilopus Attems, 1897

Attems 1897: 7–8 (as Schendyla (Schendyloides) psilopus nov. spec.)

Type locality and specimens. Coll. Mich. 99. Magalhaens-Str. [ Strait of Magellan ], Elizabeth-Isl.; 13.X.92 (2 Expl. 1 ♂ und 1 ♀.) .

Dimensions. Länge 16 mm, Breite 0,38 mm. Das ♂ hat 53 Beinpaare. Das ♀ nur 43. [Length 16 mm, width 0.38 mm. Leg pairs ♂ 53, ♀ only 43].

Type material. Paralectotypes 2 ( ZMH-A0000578 , ZMH-A0008109 ). CHILE: Strait of Magellan , Elizabeth Island (station 99) [Isabel Island?] [ca. 52°52’S, 70°42’W] GoogleMaps .

Preservation. 1 jar: Label 1. Schendyla psilopus Att. , Typus! Michaelsen C. Elisabeth Ins. Magalhaens Str; Label 2. Schendyla psilopus Attems 2 Expl. (imprint: Zool. Museum Hamburg); Label 3. Specimen “A” had head and the mouth parts removed and cleaned in KOH by Attems. He evidently based description chiefly on it. Specimen “B” was intact, undissected. ( R. Crabill, 10.VIII.1962) (Crabill’s handwriting, imprint on the backside: United States National Museum); Label 4. Male and female not conspecific, even not congeneric! L.A. Pereira, rev. 1992.

Old type catalogue. Weidner (1960), p. 63, No. 35. Holotype ♂ and paratype ♀.

Type status. A lectotype was designated by Crabill (1964: 35) from a specimen at the NHMW and the ZMH specimens are paralectotypes, which is an update to Weidner (1960). Ilie et al. (2009) missed this species (and the lectotype) in their catalogue of Geophilomorpha in the Natural History Museum in Vienna.

Additional remarks. Sometimes cited with the incorrect spelling Schendyloides psilopa ( Bonato et al. 2016) .

Collection remarks. The specimens were collected by Wilhelm Michaelsen during his expedition to the southern tip of South America 1892–93.

Current systematic position. Schendyloides psilopus ( Attems, 1897) .
