85. Cormocephalus michaelseni Kraepelin View in CoL , 1908
Kraepelin 1908: 113–114, plate XII, fig.13 (as Cormocephalus michaelseni n. sp.)
Type locality and specimens. 137, Collie, erbeutet. [All specimens originate form the far south ot the region. The species is apparently common around station 165, Albany; also near station 144, Bridgetown and station 137, Collie speciemens were collected].
Dimensions. Bis 45 mm lang [length up to 45 mm].
Type material. Syntypes 7. AUSTRALIA: Western Australia: ( ZMH-A0000601 ), Bridgetown (station 144) [ca. 33°57’S, 116°08’E]; GoogleMaps ( ZMH-A0000602 ), Albany (station 165) [ca. 31°01’S, 117°53’E]; GoogleMaps ( ZMH-A0000613 , ZMH-A0009303-9306 ), Collie (station 137) [ca. 33°21’S, 116°09’E] GoogleMaps .

Old type catalogue. Weidner (1960), p. 66, No. 27. Syntypes 5 and paratypes (number not specified).
Type status. Kraepelin (1908) did not specify the number of specimens in his description and Weidner (1960: 66) listed 5 syntypes from Collie and 2 additional types from Bridgetown and Albany, respectively. There are additional syntypes from Albany at the ZMB (catalog no. 4631). Shelley (2008: 196) listed the five syntypes from Collie and the ZMH catalogue also lists the Collie specimens as “Typus”.
Nomenclatural notes. Secondary homonym of C. michaelseni (now H. michaelseni ) Attems, 1903 replaced by C. kraepelini ( Attems, 1930) . Attems (1930) had reduced Hemiscolopendra Kraepelin, 1903 to subgeneric status under Cormocephalus , thereby creating the homonymy between C. (Hemiscolopendra) michaelseni (Attems, 1903) from Chile with C. (Cormocephalus) michaelseni Kraepelin, 1908 from Western Australia. Lewis et al. (2010) pointed out that Attems intended to rename the Western Australian specimens as C. (C.). kraepelini (Attems 1903: 5, footnote) but did not change the name in the text. Shelley (2009: 196) reexamined the five syntypes from Collie and confirmed that these belong to the “true” Cormocephalus and not Cormocephalus (Hemiscolopendra) michaelseni from Chile which, since then, has been synonymized with Akymnopellis laevigata ( Porat, 1876) ( Shelley 2008) . Note that Weidner was evidently aware of Attems’ error - “H. ist ein Schreibfehler!” [“H is a typing error!”].
Current systematic position. Cormocephalus kraepelini ( Attems, 1930) ; see Lewis et al. (2010).
