106. Otostigmus michaelseni Attems , 1903

Attems1903: 80, 97–98 (as Otostigmus michaelseni n. sp.)

Type locality and specimens. Fundort [locality]: Valparaiso. Salto und Gärten (Dr. Michaelsen coll. Mai 1893) .

Dimensions. Grösstes Exemplar 50 mm lang ohne Analbeine [length of the tallest specimen without ultimate legs 50 mm].

Type material. Syntypes 4 ( ZMH-A0000600 , ZMH-A0003225-3227 ). CHILE: Valparaíso Region, Quilpué [ca. 33°02’S, 71°26’W] GoogleMaps .

Preservation. 1 jar: Label. Otostigma michaelseni Att. Typus Quilpué Michaelsen l. 11.VI.1893.

Old type catalogue. Weidner (1960), p. 69, No. 60. Syntypes 3.

Type status. Weidner (1960: 69) listed 3 paratypes from Quilqué and noted that the holotype from Valparaiso and the paratypes from Salto and Valparaiso (“Gärten” [gardens]) are missing. He added: „ Kraepelin 1903, 215–216, Abb. 143: Hemiscolopendra michaelseni (Attems) , Quilqué (im handschriftlichen Katalog von Kraepelin als Typen bezeichnet, demnach 3 Syntypen [named as types in Kraepelin’s handwritten catalogue, therefore 3 syntypes]), Coquimbo, Paratypoid (fehlt [missing]); keine weiteren Fundortangaben [no more locality notes].

Collection remarks. The specimen was collected by Wilhelm Michaelsen during his expedition to the southern tip of South America 1892–93.

Remarks. Shelley (2008) was not able to locate the original type for his revision and based his synonymy on the original description and Kraepelin (1903) who had suggested that this might be a variety of A. laevigata ( Porat, 1876) . He had missed Weidner (1960) who had catalogued the syntypes.

Current systematic position. Junior synonym of Akymnopellis laevigata ( Porat, 1876) ; synonymized by Shelley (2008: 192).
