Type species. Rhinoncomimus klapperichi Wagner, 1940

Diagnosis. The genus is characterized by its short stout rostrum ( Figs. 13–24 View FIGURES 13 – 24 ) and lack of a sternal canal on the meso- and metasterna ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 25 – 33 ), a seven-segmented antennal funicle ( Figs. 33 View FIGURES 25 – 33 ), a pair of tubercules on the lateral sides of the pronotum ( Figs. 26–27 View FIGURES 25 – 33 ), an obvious incision at the base of pronotal sulcus for reception of the scutellar shield ( Figs. 26, 29 View FIGURES 25 – 33 ), uniform elytral sculpture ( Fig. 26, 30 View FIGURES 25 – 33 ), appendiculate claws ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 25 – 33 ), dentate femora, simple abdominal venter ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 25 – 33 ) and weakly transverse pygidium ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 25 – 33 ). Homorosoma Frivaldszky is similar in general appearance and in most of the diagnostic characters, but differing in its very long and slender rostrum. Rhinoncus is also close to Rhinoncomimus , sharing the stout rostrum, but distinguished by the edentate femora, which is a common trait of all other Phytobiini .
