Remarks. Cerambyx longimanus was described based on syntypes: from America ( Linnaeus 1758) ; Jamaica ( Sloane 1725: 209); West Indies ( Grew 1681: 163, pl. 13); Suriname ( Merian 1719: 23, pl. 28); unknown ( Vincent 1719: pl. 1); probably from Suriname ( Rösel 1749: Terrestrium II pl. I). According to Santos-Silva et al. (2020): “…the type locality of the syntypes is “ America ”, “West-Indies”, and “ Surinam ”, and not only “ America ” as has been reported in catalogs.” Leach (1815) transferred Acrocinus longimanus to Macropus Thunberg, 1805 (not Macropus Shaw, 1790 ), provided an unnecessary replacement name, Macropus pictus , and reported it from South America . Monné (2024b) listed the work by Leach as published in 1814. However, according to Bousquet (2016): “ Vol. II. 154 pp. + pls 61–120. [DP: 1815 (title page), December 1815 (Evenhuis 1997b: 443)].” According to Tavakilian & Chevillotte (2023), Gronovius (1764: 159) listed Lamia longimana . However, Gronovius (1764) did not name the species and only refers to it as a number (522). In the index in Gronovius (1781), it is mentioned as “Longimanus .” Actually, it was Latreille (1807) who first included the species in Lamia Fabricius, 1775 , but without formally using Lamia longimana : “Lamiae propriae. Les Lamies propres … Macropi Thunberg; Prionorum Olivier division prima. Les Macropes de Thumberg ; la première division des Priones d’Olivier. Cerambyx longimanus . Linn., Fab.” “ Lamia longimana ” appears formally in Schönherr (1817: 347), in the synonymic list of Acrocinus longimanus . Monné (2024b) listed: “ Lamia longimana ; Gronovan, 1781: 159.” However, Laurens Theodorus Gronow always used “Gronovius” in his works. Furthermore, the year of the publication is 1764, and not 1781.
Currently, it is known from Mexico (Jalisco, Veracruz, Chiapas, Colima, Oaxaca, Campeche, Querétaro, San Luís Potosí, Sinaloa, Tabasco, and Yucatán), Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia (Antioquia, Magdalena, Tolima, Valle del Cauca, Cundinamarca, Huila, Caldas, Santander, Risaralda, and Putumayo), Venezuela, Ecuador, Suriname, French Guiana, Guyana, Brazil (Amazonas, Pará, Mato Grosso, Goiás, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul), Peru, Bolivia (Beni, La Paz, and Santa Cruz), Paraguay, and Argentina (Misiones, Corrientes) ( Monné 2024b; Tavakilian & Chevillotte 2023). Souza et al. (2020) reported it from the Brazilian state of Rondônia, which was omitted in Monné (2024b); Niño-Maldonado et al. (2023) reported the Mexican states of Nayarit, Quintana Roo, and Hidalgo, which are not listed in Monné (2024b).
Material examined. BRAZIL, Mato Grosso do Sul (new state record): Campo Grande , 1 female ( ZUFMS- COL-00581), 19.V.1984, R. Toledo, R. leg. ( ZUFMS) .
