Desmiphora similis Breuning, 1943: 46 View in CoL .

Remarks. Desmiphora cirrosa was described based on a single specimen from Peru. Erichson (1847) did not mention the sex of the holotype. However, according to Monné (2024b) and Tavakilian & Chevillotte (2023), the holotype is female. Thomson (1868b) described Desmiphora cucullata based on at least two specimens: “Long., 11-15 mill.; lat. 4-6 mill.” Monné (2024b) and Tavakilian & Chevillotte (2023) mistakenly reported the species as described by one holotype female. Thomson (1868b) also did not mention the sex of the syntypes. Desmiphora similis was described based on a single specimen from French Guiana. Monné & Giesbert (1994), without explanation, listed D. similis in the synonymy of D. cirrosa . As we did not find any work formally synonymizing D. (D.) similis with D. (D.) cirrosa before Monné & Giesbert (1994) or even after, apparently the species was never formally synonymized. Bezark & Santos-Silva (2019) synonymized D. (D.) cucullata with D. (D.) cirrosa .

Currently, it is known from Mexico (Nayarit, Veracruz, Tamaulipas, Quintana Roo, Jalisco, Chiapas, Tabasco), Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, French Guiana, Brazil (Amazonas, Ceará, Bahia, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Santa Catarina), Bolivia, Argentina (Tucumán, Formosa, and Misiones), Paraguay, and Uruguay ( Monné 2024b; Tavakilian & Chevillotte

2023). Prosen (1947) listed the Argentinean province of Santiago del Estero, which is not present in Monné (2024b).

Material examined. BRAZIL, Mato Grosso do Sul (new state record): Campo Grande , 1 female ( MNRJ- ENT-47654), 26.I.1982, W.W. Koller leg. ( MNRJ) .
