Campylomma chitwanensis Duwal, Yasunaga & Lee

( Figs. 5 View FIGURE 5 A, 8, 11−12)

Campylomma chitwanense Duwal et al., 2010: 14 View in CoL (n. sp.).

Diagnosis. Recognized by its moderate to small size; comparatively small ventral spots on meso- and metafemora ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ); nearly U-shaped endosoma ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 ); and small but thick-rimmed female sclerotized rings that are relatively separated each other ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 ).

Description. Female: Similar in general appearance to male. Body more oval; basic coloration pale green or sometimes yellowish green. Eye small; vertex wide. Antennal segment II basally with an obscure ring that is sometimes obliterated. Labium relatively long, reaching base of metacoxa. Meso- and metafemoral spots comparatively small. Genitalia as in Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 ; Sclerotized rings thick-rimmed, with toughened posterior margin, relatively separated from each other.

Measurements. ♂/♀: Total body length 2.0−2.6/ 2.0−2.2; length from apex of clypeus to cuneal fracture 1.40−1.62/ 1.38−1.49; width of head across eyes 0.56−0.60/ 0.55−0.57; width of vertex 0.20−0.23/ 0.25−0.26; lengths of antennal segments I-IV 0.12−0.14, 0.55−0.62, 0.32−0.36, 0.24−0.25/ 0.12, 0.45−0.49, 0.31−0.32, 0.24; mesal length of pronotum 0.33−0.39/ 0.35−0.36; basal width of pronotum 0.78−0.84/ 0.75−0.78; maximum width across hemelytron 0.84−0.99/ 0.94−0.96; and lengths of metafemur, tibia and tarsus 0.72−0.84, 1.03−1.21, 0.32−0.36/ 0.72, 0.96−1.04, 0.31−0.35.

Biology. Adults of this species were occasionally collected from inflorescences of various plants ( Asteraceae , Dipterocarpaceae and Tiliaceae ) but the breeding host is yet to be confirmed. Collection records suggest C. chitwanensis should have at least two generations per year.

Remarks. Females of C. chitwanensis usually cannot be separated from those of C. lividicornis and smallsized C. livida by external characters alone. Observation of the female genitalia is the only method to equivocally differentiate these species. In some areas in Thailand, any of five species ( chitwanensis , livida , lividicornis , nanna and pimai ) may co-occur (or simultaneously be collected by light traps or by sweeping inflorescences of broadleaf angiosperms), and thus dissection of the female genitalia is obligatory for making reliable species identifications.
