Types. Holotype MNHN 25282. Paratypes: MNHN 25283, 25 shells, MZSP 102943, 9 shells, MNRJ 25960, 2 shells, all from type locality. Brazil. Espírito Santo; continental slope of Abrolhos (MD55; Bouchet, Leal & Métivier col, 27/v/1987); off Regência, 19°40’S 37°48’W, 790–940 m, MNHN 25284, 2 shells, MZSP 102944, 1 shell (sta. CB77); off Itaúnas, 19°00’S 37°49’W, 950–1050 m, MNHN 25285, 2 shells (sta. DC72), 18°59’S 37°48’W, 607–620 m, MNHN 25286, 2 shells, MZSP 102945, 1 shell (sta. DC73).

Type locality. Brazil. Espírito Santo; continental slope of Abrolhos, off Itaúnas, 18°59’S 37°50’W, 295 m (MD55 sta. DC75; Bouchet, Leal & Métivier col, 27/v/1987).

Diagnosis. Well curved posteriorly. Height 92–98% of length. Sculptured by regularly distributed relatively large, widely spaced pustules, ca. 50 per row (close to aperture), intercalated in successive rows.

Description. Shell size 3.4 mm; highly conical, well arched posteriorly (Figs 6, 8, 11, 12, 15); height 92–98% of length. White, translucent. Protoconch no longer present. Foramen terminal, apical, elliptical, width ca. 50% of length; turned towards dorsal ca. 2% of aperture area; edges irregular (Figs 7, 13). Shell gradually increasing in width towards aperture, long axis almost circular; apical angle ca. 30°, total shell angle ca. 25°. Outer sculpture uniform mosaic of small pustules (Figs 6–8, 10–13, 15), ca. 50 per row close to aperture, arranged somewhat alternately in adjacent rows; pustules increasing in number from dorsal to ventral; each pustule volcano-shaped, surrounded by smooth space 10 times its width (Fig. 16). Aperture planar, elliptical, width 64% of length; edges irregular. Inner surface smooth, glossy (Figs 9, 14). Septum ca. 60% of shell height; 3 times higher than wide, ventral edge slightly concave, ca. 60% of aperture width; gradually narrowing towards posterior edge of fissure.

Measurements. Holotype: 3.4 by 3.6; paratypes MNHN 25283 #1: 2.1 by 2.8; #2: 3.3 by 3.4.

Distribution. Continental slope off Espírito Santo, Brazil.

Habitat. Sandy mud bottoms, 295–1050 m (dead specimens).

Material examined. Types.

Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Portuguese language arrepiada, meaning bristle hair, in allusion to the outer surface of the shell resembling a bristled skin.
