Type horizon.

Eocene; late Villafranchian, early Pleistocene.

Type locality.

"Des environs d’Epernay. [...] Du dépôt situé entre St.-Germini et Carsoli" [surroundings of Épernay (France); from deposits between San Gemini and Carsoli (Italy)].

Remarks.

Introduced within the var. γ, to which Férussac attributed the term " antiquua ", which was probably not intended as species-group name (see introduction for a detailed discussion of the names introduced by Férussac 1823).
