1 jährig. Stengel niederliegend. Kelch- und Kronblätter 5. Staubblätter 10. Fruchtknoten 5 fächerig, mit 1 Griffel und pyramidenförmigem, 5kantigem Narbenkopf. Frucht in 5 warzige, dornige und geflügelte Teilfrüchte zerfallend.
Die Gattung Tribulus umfaßt etwa 20 vorwiegend afrikanisch-südwestasiatische Arten.
