Range:— Central Mexico to Panama; Venezuela; Ecuador to Bolivia (CO, LP).
Ecology:— Uncommon; terrestrial in humid timberline forests with Polylepis Ruiz & Pav. and Weinmannia L., often growing among rocks and on ravine banks; 3100–4000 m.
Notes:— A member of the A. monanthes complex ( Dyer et al. 2012, 2013).
