Measurements. Largest Ψ 11.6 x 11.2 mm.

Remarks. The only previous report of Petrolisthes lamarckii for the Red Sea was provided by Riddell (1911), who reported the species from the Sudanese coast. Lewinsohn (1969) hesitantly included this citation in the synonymy of P. rufescens (Heller) , a species frequently reported for the Red Sea, and subsequently ( Lewinsohn 1979) explicitly stated the absence of P. l a m a rc k i i in the Red Sea. Kropp (1983) discussed the complex synonymy of the species, comparing it with similar species from the Indo-West Pacific.

Distribution. The species has a wide distribution in the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific. The specimens included in this study constitute the first definitive records for the species of the Red Sea.
