varipalpis Malloch View in CoL View at ENA
Desmometopa varipalpis Malloch, 1927:7 View in CoL . Sabrosky 1983:41 [revision]; Peck 1996:122 [mode of introduction]; Peck et al. 1998: 228 [introduced species]; Causton et al. 2006: 134 [introduced species].
Desmometopa m-nigrum View in CoL of authors (misidentification): Curran 1934: 162 [specimen examined in CAS]; Linsley & Usinger 1966: 197 [checklist]; Peck 1996: 122 [mode of introduction]; Peck et al. 1998: 228 [introduced species].
Distribution. Introduced. Cosmopolitan; Galápagos: Baltra (CAS), Isabela, Santa Cruz (CAS).
Remarks. Adults of this species were collected in the arid zone. Sabrosky (1983) suggested that a previous record of D. m-nigrum in the Pacific was based on a misidentification. The original specimen identified by Curran (1934) upon which this record was based was re-examined, confirming the identification as D. varipalpis .
