Includes the population designated hellmayri in the analysis.

Diagnosis. Song differs from that of I. h. hauxwelli in lacking frequency modulation of notes. Plumage differs from that of other subspecies in lacking a white interscapular patch.

Distribution. South of the Amazon River from the right bank of the Rio Xingu, Brazil, to the Atlantic Ocean, including the southern portion of Marajó Island; bounded on the east and south by the Rio Araguaia, Maranhão, and by Amazonian forest limits extending southwest to the upper Rio Xingu.

Remarks. This subspecies differs by mtDNA genetic distance of 2.8% from other subspecies of I. hauxwelli .
