Type Locality: Canada, District of Mackenzie, Great Bear Lake, Fort Franklin.

Vernacular Names: Northern Bog Lemming.

Synonyms: Synaptomys (Mictomys) andersoni J. A. Allen 1903 ; Synaptomys (Mictomys) artemisiae Anderson 1932 ; Synaptomys (Mictomys) bullatus Preble 1902 ; Synaptomys (Mictomys) chapmani J. A. Allen 1903 ; Synaptomys (Mictomys) dalli Merriam 1896 ; Synaptomys (Mictomys) innuitus ( True 1894) ; Synaptomys (Mictomys) medioximus Bangs 1900 ; Synaptomys (Mictomys) smithi Anderson and Rand 1943 ; Synaptomys (Mictomys) sphagnicola Preble 1899 ; Synaptomys (Mictomys) truei Merriam 1896 ; Synaptomys (Mictomys) wrangeli Merriam 1896 .

Distribution: Patchy occurrence in boreal habitats, from Alaska to N Washington, USA, eastwards across much of interior Canada to Labrador; disjunct range segment from Gaspe Peninsula, Quebec, to C New Hampshire, USA.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).

Discussion: Subgenus Mictomys . Pleistocene records establish the species in the Great Basin, far to the south of its current range (see Mead et al., 1992).
