Type locality. Tairua.

Broun number: 556.

Type material examined. 1 ex. Holotype ( NHM): card-mounted, “ Cyphanus mollis \ Type D. S. \ Tairua. Broun” [written at base of card in Sharp’s hand], “Tairua, \ New Zealand. [red underline] \ Broun. “, “Sharp Coll. \ 1905-313.”, “ Type \ H. T.” [round label with red margin].

Remarks. According to Sharp (1878), two specimens collected by Broun at Tairua were sent to Wakefield and Sharp.
