Herbs up to 200 cm tall, stems solitary or scarcely branched near the base, erect, herbaceous, pubescent to hirsute, glandular. Leaves, sessile, linear to narrowly linear-lanceolate, 38–138.2 × 8–25 mm, margin serrate, 6–16 teeth per side, 0.5–3.3 mm long; apex acute, base truncate; membranous, adaxially pubescent to scarcely hirsute with simple and glandular trichomes, abaxially pubescent with simple and glandular trichomes. Inflorescence a raceme, erect, pedicels thin, 1–9 mm long. Two types of bracts. Upper bracts triangular to lanceolate, 5–23 × 2–10.4 mm, margin entire, apex acute, base rounded. Lower bracts linear to narrowly lanceolate, 17–37 × 6–8 mm, margin serrate with up to 11 teeth per side, teeth up to 1 mm long, apex acute, base slightly auriculate. Calyx campanulate without dots on the surface, 3.2–10 × 3–7 mm, lobes triangular, margin entire, 2–7 × 1.5–4 mm, apex acute, glandular-pubescent. Corolla tubular 15–46 × 3–6.2 mm, bilobed, upper lip 7–23 × 5–10 mm, lower lip 7–17 × 3–5.1 mm, lobes 3.5 × 1.5–1.9 mm; pink to purple, pubescent, non-glandular. Stamens exserted 2, filaments of lower pair 36–43 mm long, anthers 3–3.5 mm long, filaments of upper pair 17 mm long, anthers absent. Style 33–44 mm long, stigma capitate, 0.9–1.2 × 1 mm. Capsule elliptic to ovoid, 8.2–12 × 4–8 mm, glabrous. Seeds 1.2–1.3 × 0.5–0.7 mm, with reticulate coat.

Etymology: —The name of the species refers to its distribution close to the Pacific Ocean.

Distribution and Ecology: —The species is endemic from Mexico and is distributed in the northern and western states of Durango, Jalisco, Nayarit, and Sinaloa ( Fig. 11H View FIGURE 11 ). This species occurs at elevations from 300 to 2930 m in oak and pine-oak forests.

Phenology: —Flowering from November to May. Fruits collected from February to April.
