Tribe Spodochlamyini

( Figs 6 View FIGURES 2–7 , 12, 17 View FIGURE 17 ; Tables 6, 7)

The Spodochlamyini is a small, Neotropical tribe that includes four genera and 16 species ( Machatschke 1972). Members of the group are distributed primarily in cloud forest habitats in northern South America . In Ecuador, the tribe Spodochlamyini includes two genera ( Anatista and Spodochlamys ) and six species ( Table 6). The highest diversity of species is in the northern tropical and subtropical zones from sea level to 2000 m ( Fig. 12). Three of the six species of Spodochlamyini in Ecuador are endemic: Anatista macrophylla Ohaus , Spodochlamys feyeri Ohaus , and S. mirabilis Waterhouse.

Little is known about the temporal distribution of Spodochlamyini species. Few specimens had complete collecting data, but it appears that species of Spodochlamyini have two peaks of abundance: one during February and the other during December ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 2–7 , Table 7). Adult activity increased in relation to rainfall. An increase in adult activity during February is especially evident in the northwestern Andean slopes of Ecuador.
