Discussion: Millardia Division. Misonne (1969) suggested that Diomys is related to Chiromyscus , Dacnomys , and Niviventer (Misonne used the name Maxomys for this group), but Musser and Newcomb (1983) hypothesized that Millardia , Cremnomys , and other Indian genera may be more closely allied to Diomys , a view held by Ellerman (1947 a) who wrote that it is "a pro-odont offshoot of Millardia which resembles it in having very long palatal foramina and a long palate, also in the shortened fifth hind-toe.".
