Discussion: Formerly included in Tadarida , often as a subgenus, but apparently distinct; see Freeman (1981), also see Legendre (1984). Dunlop (1999) provided a key to subgenera and species in this genus. Two subgenera are recognized, Mops and Xiphonycteris .
