The original description of Baird (1860) is limited to that of the carapace which of course is insufficient to recognize the species following modern standards. In addition, type material is currently lost and topotypic material has never been studied since the original description. Six vials with the same species label, E. compressa Baird, 1860 are stored in the MNHN collection as indicated by Daday ( Daday , 1927). These include three vials from India [MNHN-IU-2007-595 (= MNHN-Bp326), MNHN-IU-2007-596 (= MNHN-Bp327) and MNHN-IU- 2007-598 (= MNHN-Bp329)] and two from Cambodia [MNHN-IU-2007-594 (= MNHN-Bp325) and MNHN-IU- 2007-597 (= MNHN-Bp328)]. Daday assigned all the above populations to E. compressa without studying the original Baird's types or any topotypic material. One of these vials has juveniles ( Daday , 1927) while the rest of the vials have adults showing two different egg morphologies (see Rabet, 2010) thus making it impossible to designate it as a distinct species. Therefore, until a precise analysis of topotypic material can be performed, E. compressa should be considered as nomen dubium.
