Scaphoideus rubroguttatus Matsumura View in CoL

( Figs 10–12 View FIGURES 10–16 , 19 View FIGURES 17–22 )

Scaphoideus rubroguttatus Matsumura, 1914: 223 View in CoL ; Okada, 1977: 197–198, figs 22–28; Kitbamroong & Freytag, 1978: 28–30, figs 37–38, 135–140, 146.

Material examined. JAPAN: 1♂, Honshu, 16.viii.2000 ; 4♂, 19, Ryukyus Is (Iriomote 11.x.1990, Miyako 22.xi.1992 and Ishigaki 7.v.1993), M. Hayashi. (coll. M. Hayashi and BMNH) .

Remarks. There is some uncertainty as to the identity of this species, originally described from a single female from Taiwan. We take the identity of the species from Okada (1977) as first reviser, who examined the female type and figured a male specimen from Japan. Specimens from the Ryukyus Islands (near Taiwan) figured here, also match this identity. The species was also treated by Kitbamroong & Freytag (1978) who also examined and figured the female type. However, the male specimen they figured from Thailand could represent a different species as, although the figures lack detail, the aedeagus looks different to that figured here. They also recorded the species from Vietnam and the Philippines. Our specimen from Vietnam is a new species described below.
