NEW STATUS

Pseudomyrmex lizeri (Santschi   HNS 1922a). NEW STATUS.

Pseudomyrma flavidula st. lizeri Santschi   HNS 1922a: 346.

Pseudomyrmex flavidulus lizeri (Santschi)   HNS . Kusnezov 1953: 214.

Pseudomyrmex lizeri   HNS is known from a pair of localities in eastern Paraguay where it is locally sympatric with the common P. flavidulus   HNS . There is no reason to consider the two forms conspecific. In Paraguay, Pseudomyrmex lizeri   HNS is a noticeably larger ant than P. flavidulus   HNS and has a disproportionately broader head. I have not examined the type material of this species, but Phil Ward identified the Paraguayan specimens and concurs with a change in status for P. lizeri   HNS (Ward, pers comm.).
