This species has been reported from the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexicoin depths of 604 to 1967 m( Milne-Edwards 1880; Henderson 1888; Chace 1942). Six specimens of  M. serratifronswere available from collections: five males (two measured, CW from 4.4 mmand 9.5 mm) and one ovigerous female (CW = 6.3 mm; eggs were not measured). All specimens were collected in the Gulf of Mexicoin January, April, and May from depths of 325 to 897 m.
