Diagnosis: P. ro r a i m e n s i s sp. nov.Is closely related to P. vidali Mendonça, Rafael & Ale-Rocha, 2007due to the curvature of the costal vein and the presence of microtrichiae clothing the epandrium. It differs from the latter due to the absence of an oblique epandrial projection.
Description.Male: body length 3.0 mm; wing length 3.1 mm. Frons and face shiny black. Frons slightly narrower than width of anterior ocellus, subparallel sided, bearing two proclinate setae. Face slightly longer than frons and equal to width of frons. Proboscis light-yellow, length equal to height of head. Palpus brown, with one small and almost apical seta. Ocellar tubercule with vitreous light-brown ocellus; two proclinate ocellar setae; two proclinate postocellar setae. Antenna brown with sparse pruinescence; scape and pedicel medially verticillate; flagellum about four times longer than scape and pedicel combined. Postcranium shiny brown, with distinct brown setae and gray pruinescence; one pair of parallel vertical setae; postocellar setae distinct, arranged in complete single series. Gena and postgena with brown setae and sparse gray pruinescence. Thorax shiny brown, with conspicuous postsutural gray pruinescence. Thoracic setae: 3 slender ktg; 4 sctl, larger internal pair; 2 aprn; prepm broken; 2 pprn; 2 acr previous; 4 dc; spal presut and spal psut broken; 2 ntpl; 1 pal. Legs with coxae, trochanters and basal fifth of FIGURE 15. Hindtibia with long dorsal setae. All legs with short distinct setae. Wing brown with inconspicuous pterostigma; anal lobe wide ( Fig. 19e). Halter brown. Abdomen shiny darkbrown, with metallic green luster in diverse light incidence angles. Sternites brown shiny. Tergite 6 longer than wide (Fig. 15a); Tergite 7 with pair of posteroventral protuberances (Fig. 15a); tergite 8 wider than long (Fig. 15a); sternite 7 narrower anteriorly (Fig. 15b); and inclined in lateral view (Fig. 15c). Terminalia: hypandrium with row of short posteroventral setae, with apex differentiated (Figs. 15d; h). Cercus elongate in lateral view (Fig. 15d); in dorsal view with internal ventral projection (Fig. 15g). Epandrium without projection, with long setae posteriorly and microtrichiae over dorsal region (Fig. 15e). Ejaculatory apodeme with three projections in anterior view (Fig. 15f); subepandrial sclerite elongate, with base and apex with proportional sizes (Fig. 15i). Female: Unknown.
Distribution: BRAZIL(Roraima).
Typematerial: Holotypemale: BRAZIL: Roraima, Pacaraima, 25.vi–5.vii.1988, Eq.[uipe] J.A. Rafael / Flor de Heliconiasp. / Holotypemacho Porphyrochroa roraimensis ( INPA ). Holotypecondition:prepm and spal psut setae broken; left midleg lost; left wing mounted on microslide in Canadabalsam; abdomen within microvial containing glycerin. Microslide and microvial pinned attached to the specimen.
Etymology:The specific name in reference to the name of the State of Roraima, the type-locatity.
