Distribution and habitat. Potamites juruazensisis endemic to southwestern Amazonia, with its distribution until now restricted to a few localities in Braziland Peru, associated with the Juruá, Urucu, and Camisea Rivers ( Fig. 16). In Brazil, it is known from the states of Amazonasand Acre. Potamites juruazensisis terrestrial and diurnal, inhabits the leaf litter of low primary forest, not directly associated with streams (Ávila-Pires & Vitt 1998; Vitt & Ávila-Pires 1998; Icochea et al.2001).
