Distribution and habitat. Gymnophthalmus leucomystaxis endemic to northern Amazonia, typical of the Lavrado area of the Guianaregion, occurring in Braziland Guyana( Fig. 9). In Brazil, it is only known from the state of Roraima. Gymnophthalmus leucomystaxis sexually dimorphic, terrestrial, and diurnal, inhabits open vegetation areas (savannas), where it is found in termite nests (Vitt & Carvalho 1995) and at the edge of rock outcrops (Vitt et al.1996).
