FIGURES 6–10.Habitus, H. glechoma(Pascoe). 6. type of Glenea glechomaPascoe, male, from Matabello. 7. type of Glenea fuscovirgataFairmaire, female, from Neu-Britannien. 8. type of Glenea palawanaBreuning, male, from Palawan. 9. holotype of Glenea guadalcanalanaBreuning, male, from Salomons. 10. holotype of Glenea hamabovolaHayashi, male, from Japan. 11. claw of fore tarsus in the right side, showing the unequal teeth of anterior claw. Supplementary description. Male: length: 6.5–7.7 mm, humeral width: 1.9–2.3 mm. Female: length: 7.8–9.6 mm, humeral width: 2.3–2.9 mm. Antennomere ratio: male, 10 2 13 11 9 88 8 8 8 9; female, 12 2 16 12 10 9 98 8 7 9. Maleterminalia ( Figs 12–13): Tegmen about 1.6 mmin length; lateral lobes stout, each about 0.4 mmlong and 0.15 mmwide, with finely haired ridge at ventral base, apex with setae nearly as long as lateral lobes; basal piece not bifurcated distally; median lobe plus median struts moderately curved, a little longer than tegmen; median struts subequal to one half of whole median lobe; dorsal plate shorter than ventral plate; apex of ventral plate slightly pointed; median foramen widely elongated, rounded at apex; internal sac more than 3 times of median lobe plus median struts, with five pieces of basal armature, two bands of supporting armature and three rods; rods about 2.3 mm, much longer than tegmen. Tergite VIII transverse, apex slightly pointed in middle, with moderate dense and long setae. Ventrite IX subequal to ringed part of tegmen in length. Female terminalia ( Figs 14–15): Spermathecal capsule consisting of an apical lobe and a stalk; stalk curved almost 180 degrees, nearly 1.5 times as long as apical lobe. Tignum nearly as long as abdomen.
Remarks. Gahan (1897)proposed Glenea fuscovirgata Fairmaire, 1883as a synonym of Glenea glechomaPascoe. Kano (1929), Masushita (1933)and Gressitt (1951)didn’t mention this synonymy when they studied G. glechomabut Aurivillius (1926)and Breuning (1956) accepted Gahan’s opinion, removing the question mark. According to our study on typespecimens as well as a series of specimens from typelocalities, the typesof G. glechoma( Fig. 6) and G. guadalcanalana( Fig. 9) differ from others by having less pubescence, and their prothorax and elytra with lighter tegument. We also noticed some specimens with prothorax darker while elytra showing lighter brown ( Fig. 8). Most specimens have prothorax and elytra both black with quite dense pubescence stripes. Therefore, we consider the thinner pubescence and the lighter tegument as varieties within the species. We agree with Gahan (1897)about the conspecific relationship, and propose three new synonyms: G. palawanaBreuning, 1956, G. guadalcanalanaBreuning, 1958and G. hamabovolaHayashi 1975.
