(2001: 67, G2438) [examined good photographs only].  TYPELOCALITY. —  Nada, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan  91 m[50 fms]. MATERIAL EXAMINED. —   Philippines. Panglao, Bohol, tangle net,  40-80 m, 1 lv, 2 dd, ( MO, obtained from a dealer).  New Caledoniaproper. LAGON: stn 572, Grand Récifsud, 22°52’S, 167°00’E,  65 m, 2 dd (Fig. 59).  DISTRIBUTION. —  Western Pacific: Japan, from Kii Peninsulato Tosaand western Kyūshū, “sand bottom in  50- 100 m” (Tsuchiya 2000: 405), southward to the Philippines(occasionally sold in the dealer market). New Caledonia, empty shells in   65 m.  REMARKS. — The two shells from New Caledoniashow the clear characteristic features of  Babelomurex cariniferoidesas in the Philippinesmaterial. The publication by Õyama (1960)is a collection of shell photographs, in which the author named this species as “  Latiaxis cariniferSowerby” evidently mispelling the name of the northeastern Atlantic  B. cariniferus(G.B. Sowerby [second of the name], 1834).
