Julus lactarius Say, 1821 , J. Acad. Nat. Sci. Philadelphia, 2: 104. Type material, from an unspecified locality, not known to be extant. Chamberlin & Hoffman (1958: 109) suggested Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as restricted type locality, but without designating a neotype.

Range: New Jersey to central Florida, west and north to Ohio and Indiana, with an apparent hiatus in the range between
Virginia and northern Florida. Although the species is statewide in Florida, there are no Coastal Plain records for the
northern population (cf. Hoffman 1999).
