Distribution. Canada (British Columbia), United States (Oregon, California).

Remarks. The type locality of Abrhexoza grossa is Del Puerto Canyon, in central California, and the species is also known from Oregon and British Columbia. In the original description, Cook (1956a) mentioned that the type is at the ‘University of California Collection’, which probably means the University of California at Davis. In our samples, this species appeared in the BioSCAN sites 6, 13, 14, 22, 29, 31, 39, and 45. The sites of Phase I (1–32) are all at the northern range of the BioSCAN collecting sites, which may have influence of the fauna at the mountains of the northern range of the city. Altitude of BioSCAN collecting sites vary from 9 m to 245 m ( Brown and Hartop 2016) ( Table 1 View Table 1 ) and the sites with A. grossa catches are all above 130 (except for site 31, which is at 74 m). Two Phase II sites with specimens of A. grossa are at the eastern most range of the BioSCAN collecting sites. Some specialized phorid species, as Anevrina variabilis Borgmeier , a scavenger in rodent burrows ( Brown and Hartop 2016), were found at the northernmost Phase I BioSCAN sites close to the surrounding mountain natural areas, suggesting that some elements of the fauna have a restricted distribution in the area of Los Angeles.
