Basionym: Opegrapha striatula Acharius, Syn. View in CoL meth. lich.: 74 (1814).

Type :—AFRICA. Guinea, ad corticem Uvariae, s.coll. (H-Ach. 629!, holotype) .

Thallus corticolous, off-white or ochre-gray, or pale olive green, continuous, smooth, distinctly corticate, glossy or partly dull. Lirellae prominent, lacking a thalline margin or with a basal thalline margin, short to slightly elongate, up to 3 mm long, straight, curved or sinuous, simple or rarely irregularly branched, labia convergent, striate, disc concealed, not visible from above, ( striatula -morph). Exciple laterally to almost completely carbonized; hymenium clear; ascospores 8/ascus, hyaline, transversely 10–14-septate, 44–54 × 10–13 μm; 10–15-septate, 40–60 × 8–11 μm ( Staiger 2002).

Chemistry: no lichen substances by TLC (anal. J. Sutjaritturakan).

Distribution and habitat:—Pantropical, reported from Brazil, Dominican Republik, Puerto Rico ( Staiger 2002), Africa (type locality), Hawaii, Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, China ( Wolseley et al 2002) and Thailand, Trat province ( Vainio 1909). It was collected in a secondary forest and in plantations between 120 and 190 m.

Remarks:— Graphis duplicata Ach. is very similar, but is distinguished in having smaller ascospores (25–45 × 6–8 μm; see above).

Material from Thailand examined:— Chumphon province: Lang Suan district, tambon Wang Tako, surroundings of Moo 13, in a durian plantation ( Durio zibethinus ), 190 m, 09°55’54’’ N, 99°02’30’’ E, 14 June 2008, J. Sutjaritturakan 1099 (hb. K. & J. Kalb 42456)—Nakhon Sri Thammarat: Lansaka district, tambon Khao Kaeo, in front of Kasemsomran waterside, in a betelnut palm plantation ( Areca catechu ), 120 m, 08°20’42’’ N, 99°43’14’’ E, 15 October 2012, J. Sutjaritturakan 4863 (hb. K. & J. Kalb 42469)— Phuket province: Thalang district, in the area of Kho Rang, on bark of an unidentified tree, in a secondary forest, 140 m, 07°53’35’’ N, 98°22’50’’ E, 22 April 2012, J. Sutjaritturakan 4052 (hb. K. & J. Kalb 42452).
