Alsidium triquetrum (S.G.Gmelin) Trevisan

Thallus fleshy, reddish, 12–24 cm long, with triangular axes in cross section, 380–420 μm in diameter. Main axes branching pseudo-dichotomously; main axes and branches covered by three rows of ramuli, arranged in an opposite manner, simulating scales of 1–2 mm in length ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 6–16. 6 ). Polysiphonous organization, with 7 pericentral cells, 55–90 x 80–105 μm in diameter, peltate or elongated, arising from a central spherical axial cell (45–50 μm in diameter) ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 6–16. 6 ). Medulla with two layers of rounded cells, 55–90 μm in diameter. Cortex with one layer of conspicuously pigmented cells, 15–20 μm in diameter ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 6–16. 6 ).
