The syntype specimen of A. opatroides in Fig. 1 is hereby designated lectotype ( NHMUK0143 80595). It is a slightly teneral specimen, point mounted above the original card, which bears the text, in Sharp’s handwriting: “ Asiopus opatroides ; D.S. Type; Pacific slopes, Ecuador; below 1400 ft., Whymper.” On the underside of the card is hand- written “1305(2); [above a hand-drawn line]; Whymper.” A circular printed label reading “Type”, ringed in red and of the usual Natural History Museum style, follows on the pin. Thirdly, there is a printed label reading “ Sharp coll.; 1905-313.” Lastly, we placed a lectotype label on the specimen with “ Asiopus opatroides ; Sharp, 1891; des. M. A. Ivie 2020.” The right hind leg, missing the tarsal claws, is glued to the original card .

With this designation, the second syntype ( NHMUK014380596 ) becomes a paralectotype. It remains glued to the original card, and is labeled as for the lectotype with the exception of the number on the underside of the card reading “1305(3)”. A paralectotype label with “ Paralectotype: Asiopus opatroides ; Sharp, 1891; des. M. V.L. Barclay 2020” has been attached. The right middle leg has been detached and glued separately to the card. Both specimens were formerly pinned through their right elytron and subsequently card mounted .

The above generic and specific synonymy re- quires the transfer of the other eight species current- ly in Alaetrinus to Asiopus , resulting in the following new combinations (for full synonymies before 2003 or references not included, see Iwan [2002a, b]; use of these names is not exhaustively cited here):
