Terrestrial trees. Distribution in PILA 0–1400 m, low elevation mixed forest, mixed forest in transition to low elevation forest, mixed forest in transition to cloud forest, dense thicket. Global distribution: Mexico, Costa Rica to Paraguay, Argentina. Records: A.K. Monro 4821 (BM, INB, MO), D. Santamaría 6192 (BM, INB, MO, PMA). Uses: Firewood, ornamental.
