4. Balbisia peduncularis (Lindl.) D. Don (1831: 11) View in CoL
Lectotype (here designated): [ CHILE. IV. Región de Comquimbo :] Coquimbo, no date, Macrae s.n., Herb. Soc. Hort. Lond. anno 1831 (K-000531455!).
Ξ Ledocarpon pedunculare Lindley (1831 : t. 1392).
Ξ Cruckshanksia peduncularis (Lindl.) Steudel (1840: 448)
= Cruckshanksia cistiflora Hooker (1831: 211 , t. 90).— Lectotype (here designated): [ CHILE. IV. Región de Comquimbo :] Coquimbo, no date, Cruckshanks s.n. (K-000531453!).
= Ledocarpon cistiflorum Meyen (1834: 470) View in CoL , nomen nudum
This species is superficially similar to B. verticillata View in CoL and has been confused with that species in the past ( Macbride 1949). However, the wider leaves ( Fig. 2 C View FIGURE 2 ) and involucral segments ( Fig. 2 D View FIGURE 2 ) and the larger petals clearly distinguish it from all other species. Its peduncles are usually very long and robust ( Fig. 2 B View FIGURE 2 ). So far, no material of this species has been encountered either from the extreme north of Chile or from Peru.
