Centris burgdorfi paraguayensis Friese, 1901 View in CoL

Centris burgdorfi var. paraguayensis Friese, 1901: 347 View in CoL . Junior synonym of C. burgdorfi ( Roig-Alsina 2000) View in CoL .

Type data: Friese (1901) proposed this variety based on an undetermined number of males collected apparently simultaneously with the primary types of C. burgdorfi . According to Moure et al. (2007) the syntypes are housed at ZMB but they are actually in the AMNH and in the NMW, one specimen in each collection. The specimen deposited in this latter collection is here designated the lectotype. The specimen has the following data label: Paraguay Villa Rica 1900 Burgdorf [printed]\ C. burgdorfi v. paraguayensis Fr. ♂ [handwritten] 1904 Friese det. [printed]\ [orange label] Typus [printed]\ Centris (P.) burgdorfi paraguayensis Friese, 1901 F. Zanella det., 1998 [printed]\ [light blue label] LECTOTYPE [printed] Centris burgdorfi paraguayensis Friese, 1901 [handwritten] des. F. Vivallo, 2017 [printed] ( NMW). Paralectotype with the following data label: Paraguay Villa Rica 1900 Burgdorf [printed]\ C. burgdorfi v. paraguayensis Fr. ♂ [handwritten] 1904 Friese det. [printed]\ Am. Mus. Nat. Hist. Dept. Invert. Zool. No. [printed] 26440 [handwritten]\ Centris (P.) burgdorfi paraguayensis Friese, 1901 F. Zanella det., 1998 [printed]\ Centris (Paracentris) burgdorfi paraguayensis \ [light blue label] PARALECTOTYPE [printed] Centris burgdorfi paraguayensis Friese, 1901 [handwritten] des. F. Vivallo, 2017 [printed] ( AMNH).

At ZMB there was found another specimen apparently also collected with the primary types of this variety. The exemplar has the following data label: Paraguay Villa Rica 1900 Burgdorf [printed]\ C. burgdorfi v. paraguayensis Fr. ♀ [handwritten] 1904 Friese det. [printed]\ Zool. Mus. Berlin [printed with blue ink]\ [red label] Type [printed]\ Coll. Friese [printed] ( ZMB). Despite the congruent information label of provenance and the original Friese’s identification, this specimen does not belong to the type series, because he used only males to describe this variety, and that specimen is a female .

Type locality: Paraguay: Guairá department: Villarrica (“Villa Rica”) .

Comment: The specimens described as this variety have yellow pubescence on mesoscutum and mesoscutellum, a very variable character in this species.
