Cestrum vespertinum Linnaeus View in CoL , Mantissa Plantarum Altera: 206. 1771.
"Habitat in America." RCN: 1504.
Lectotype ( Benítez & D’Arcy in Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 85: 281. 1998): Herb. Linn. No. 258.2 ( LINN) .
Current name: Cestrum alternifolium (Jacq.) O.E. Schulz View in CoL ( Solanaceae ).
Note: Benítez & D’Arcy (l.c.) treat a footnote to the account of Chiococca racemosa L. in Syst. Nat. ed. 12, 2: 165. 1767) as a new binomial, Chiococca alternifolia L. (a taxonomic synonym of Cestrum alternifolium (Jacq.) O.E. Schultz ). However, it is far from clear that this was accepted as a valid name by Linnaeus, and it is not accepted as such here.
