2b. Clematis parviloba Gard. ex Champ. subsp. shengzhenii Y.H. Cheng & T.Y.A. Yang , subsp. nov. ( Fig. 1D View FIGURE 1 , 7 View FIGURE 7 , 10A–C View FIGURE 10 )
Type:— TAIWAN, New Taipei City, Peitou District , Yangmingshan, Y. H. Cheng et al. 1575, 28 Jul. 2020 (holotype: TNM; isotypes: HAST, PPI, TAI, TAIF, TI, TNM) .
Diagnosis:— Clematis parviloba Gard. ex Champ. subsp. shengzhenii was previously identified as C. parviloba subsp. bartlettii , but can be distinguished by the number of stamens (92–118 vs. 40–63), the shape of the filaments (linear vs. fusiform), the length of the anthers (0.9–1.3 mm vs.1.4–1.8 mm), and distribution at lower elevation (500–1100 m vs. 1,200 –2,600 m). Additionally, C. parviloba subsp. shengzhenii and C. parviloba subsp. parviloba differ in leaflet margin (serrate vs. entire), and length of the anthers (0.9–1.3 mm vs.1.9–2.3 mm).
Description: — Vines, woody, scandent, perennial; caulicle olive green, sulcate, velutinous. Mature woody stems brown, becoming glabrous. Leaves ternately to biternately compound, phyllotaxis alternate in seedlings or suckers, opposite at maturity. Leaflets 3–9, chartaceous, ovate to elliptic, apex acute, base obtuse to cuneate, margin entire and usually serrate, unlobed or 3-lobed; both surfaces sparsely puberulous; terminal leaflet 30.6–74.2 mm long, 9.54–32.9 mm wide; lateral leaflets 20.5–42.6 mm long, 10.5–29.9 mm wide, asymmetrical. Petiole and petiolules tendril-like, sparsely pubescent. Inflorescences cymes, axillary; flowers 1–9 or more. Pedicels densely velutinous. Bracts and bracteoles leaf-like, decussate on peduncle and pedicels. Flowers spreading, 30.2–44.1 mm in diameter. Sepals 4, white, revolute, 14.5–21.7 mm long, 6.4–8.5 mm wide, ovate to elliptic, apex mucronulate, base acute, adaxially glabrous, abaxial densely velutinous. Stamens 92–118, glabrous, 10.7–14.9 mm long, filaments white, linear, anthers white, turning black after dehiscence, 0.9–1.2mm, narrowly ellipsoid, longitudinally dehiscent, connective shorter than pollen sacs. Carpels 22–37, sericeous, 9.2–11.9 mm long. Achenes brown or black, 3.8–4.8 mm long, 2.1–3.7 mm wide, ovoid to globose, densely white puberulous. Styles persistent, 18.7–39.5 mm, with pale yellow or white hairs.
Phenology: —Flowering from June to August, and fruiting between July to October.
Distribution: —Endemic to Taiwan; at forest margins below 500–1100 m elevation in northern Taiwan, i.e., Taipei City, New Taipei City, and Taoyuan City ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 ).
Etymology: —The specific epithet " shengzhenii " is named after Prof. Dr. Sheng-Zhen Yang (fi勝K) as a token of gratitude for guiding the first author in plant taxonomy.
