Range: —Southern Mexico to Panama; Colombia to Guyana and Bolivia (LP).
Ecology: —Rare, known from two Bolivian collections; epiphytic in humid forests, high in the canopy; 1550– 1850 m.
Notes: —May be confused with species of Moranopteris , which have bright reddish hairs and lack black fungi, and Alansmia senilis , which has setose sporangia and also lacks the black fungi.
