Dendropsophus battersbyi ( Rivero 1961) View in CoL *

Holotype: BM 53 .2.4.165.

Type locality: Caracas, Venezuela.

Distribution: Region 2. Only known from type locality.

Remarks: Not collected since original description. If this is a valid species, it possibly disappeared from the Valley of Caracas due to quick expansion of the city. Mijares-Urrutia (1998) mentioned this species is apparently related to Dendropsophus amicorum and D. minutus (sensu lato). Faivovich et al. (2005) did not assign it to any species group.A thorough examination of holotype by CBA leades authors to believe Dendropsophus battersbyi is a valid species and a member of the D. minutus species group (sensu Gehara et al. 2014); alternatively, it could be conspecific with populations of D. aff. minutus from around Caracas that deserve further attention. A detailed revision of the species/populations of Dendropsophus minutus species group in the Venezuelan Andes and the Cordillera de La Costa is required to clarify the taxonomic status of this and close species.
