Clathrodrillia dautzenbergi (Tippett, 1995) : Massemin et al. (2009: 205 [Text photo not of C. dautzenbergi , prob. = Calliclava sp.]).

Type material. Lectotype, designated by Tippett (1995: 130), is in RBINS/MT 524917. The lectotype is the figured specimen (Dautzenberg, 1900: pl. 9, fig. 2). It was not examined but instead high quality images and labels associated with the lectotype provided by T. Backeljau of the RBINS were used as representative of the species. The existence of paralectotypes is inferred from Dautzenberg’s list of other localities for this species: Chazalie Sta. 20, Martinique; Chazalie Sta. 55, in 5 m, Bahia Honda, Goajira Prov., Colombia; Chazalie Sta. 52, in 6 m, Rio Hacha, Goajira Prov., Colombia; and Chazalie Stas. 41 & 42, in 15 and 40 m respectively, Santa Marta, Magdalena Dept., Colombia. The identification of the paralectotype from Martinique should be confirmed as this represents a significant range extension.

Type locality. Yacht Chazalie Sta. 30, lagoon, Margarita I., Venezuela.

Range and habitat. Colombia (Gulf of Morrosquillo, Sucre Dept.; Bolivar Dept.; Magdalena Dept.; Guajira Dept.); Venezuela (Margarita I.; Coche I.; Lobos I.; Puerto La Cruz I., Anzoátegui). Reported from 5– 120 m.

Description. Shell medium size (to 33.6 mm in total length), fusiform with a truncated anterior, spire high, turreted by a sharply demarcated sulcus; whorls approximately 12 total, with impressed suture, last whorl about 53% of total length; aperture narrowly oval; sculpture of numerous axial ribs cut by spiral grooves. Protoconch of 1¾–2 smooth whorls, tip partially immersed. Beginning of teleoconch is taken as the appearance of axial ribs. Axial sculpture of numerous straight ribs that run from suture-to-suture on spire whorls, to anterior fasciole on last; 18–22 on penultimate and 8–12 on last whorl to varix; ribs significantly reduced in sulcus, narrow, and curved reflecting outline of anal sinus. Ribs in cross-section like an inverted “V”, their bases adjoining except for the last 2–3 ribs preceding the varix, whose interspaces are about half as wide or more as the width of the ribs. Growth striae visible between the spiral cords, microscopic and dense. Varix broad, hump-like, approximately ⅓-turn from edge of outer lip, to 3–5 or more low axial folds present on surface. Spiral sculpture of widely spaced grooves, number 5–7 on penultimate and 5–7 on shell base below suture line to anterior fasciole; grooves higher on their adapical side, appearing like ridges or like overlapping planks; grooves override axial ribs, intervening spaces slightly swollen on rib crests. Anterior fasciole with 5–8 cords, sulcus with 3–4 faint spiral threads. Sulcus margin sharply demarcated; convex with ribs, growth striae, and fine spiral threads. Outer lip flattened from varix to edge of lip jutting out from the margin of the penultimate whorl, and bearing several low axial folds; edge of lip a low arc from anal sinus to stromboid notch, scalloped by the spiral cords. Anal sinus deeply notched, U-shaped; the parietal lobe, flared inner edge of sinus, and outward flex of outer lip near sinus gives sinus a spout-like appearance. Inner lip moderately wide, heavily enameled in mature specimens, emarginated, erect anteriorly along columella, recumbent and widest on parietal wall, developed into a heavy lobe posteriorly. Anterior canal short but distinctly formed, open, with a deep apical notch, edge bent dorsally in older specimens; anterior fasciole slightly swollen, with 5–8 spiral cords of varying widths—those closest to shell base narrow and crowded together, the one closest to columella broadest. Color varies from all white to light pink and white with light pink spiral bands and lines; color patch on varix may be light pink or rarely, a darker rose color.

Remarks. Taxonomy. Clathrodrillia dautzenbergi has the distinguishing characteristics of Clathrodrillia : axial ribs reduced and altered abruptly by the sulcus, strong spiral sculpture formed by deep grooves, a broad hump-like varix, and a narrow aperture only a little wider mid-whorl than the short but well-formed anterior canal and spout-like anal sinus. Variability. The average total length of 80 specimens is 26.2 mm (15.2–33.6 mm) and average W/ L ratio is 0.374. Shell color varies from all white to light pink with a darker rose-colored patch on the varix. Intermediate color forms, namely white with varying degrees of pink flush without a dark patch, are most common. Tippett (1995: 130) gives only white as the color, possibly because of limited available material. Colombian specimens appear to have more rounded shoulders than those from Venezuela; compare Pl. 40, Figs. 15–18 to the other figures in the same plate. Also, see fig 786 in Daccarett & Bossio (2011), which is also from Colombia. Identification. Cerodrillia dautzenbergi is most similar to C. garciai , new species, and also similar to C. gibbosa and C. wolfei (Tippett, 1995) . From C. garciai it differs in possessing a two-whorl protoconch, not three as in C. garciai , and also in being generally larger (average total length of 27.0 versus 18.7 mm). Spiral grooves override axial ribs in C. dautzenbergi , but not in C. garciai . It differs from C. wolfei in having more ribs (18–22 versus 8–10 on the penultimate whorl) and in being larger (27.0 versus 12.7 mm average total length). From C. gibbosa it differs in being smaller (27.0 versus 42.2 mm average total length), in possessing spiral threads in the sulcus, and in being a different color, especially in lacking the dark brown blotch on the varix.
