Range:— Ecuador to Bolivia; southeastern Brazil.

Ecology:— Common; terrestrial in humid forests; to 700(–1500) m.

Notes:— Christella grandis A.R.Sm. var. pallescens (C.Chr.) comb. ined., from the Greater Antilles to Ecuador, has been cited for Bolivia ( Smith 1971), but may not occur there. It differs from var. kunzeana by pubescent (vs. glabrous or sparsely hairy with hairs <0.1 mm long) indusia with hairs mostly> 0.1 mm long, and abaxially hairy costae with hairs mostly 0.1–0.3 mm long (vs. glabrous or with uniform hairs <0.1 mm long).
