Inflorescence a densely 8−20-flowered, simple or compound raceme; peduncle 23.0− 72.5 cm long; rachis 37.0−51.0 cm long. Flowers with pedicel c. 2.0−2.5 × 0.2−0.3 cm, warty; sepals green-brownish, dorsal lanceolate, 1.2−1.8 × 0.4−0.6 cm, laterals lanceolate, 1.2−1.8 × 0.3−0.5 cm, pendent, margin entire, apex acute; petals green-brownish, lanceolate to subspatulate, acute, 1.1−1.7 × 0.3−0.6 cm, pendent, margin gently serrate; lip with claw 0.1−0.2 × 0.2−0.3 cm, free lateral lobes elliptic, obtuse, free from midlobe, 0.6−0.8 × 0.3−0.5 cm, yellowish with pink traces, at a ˂45° angle to midlobe (in the flattened lip), not overlapping it, margin entire, midlobe deltoid to rounded, 0.4−0.8 × 0.5−0.9 cm, white thick dashes of pink, sinuous, margin undulate, apex emarginate to obtuse, callus cymbiform, apex of the callus long trifid; column clavate, 0.7−0.9 × 0.3−0.4 cm, clinandrium apex tridentate, lateral teeth triangular, apex acute, arms of the column elliptic, obtuse, 0.10−0.15 × 0.10−0.20 cm; stigma elliptic to obtriangular, with basal hooks; anther one, pink, c. 0.15 × 0.20 cm.

Distribution and habitat:— Endemic to cerrado and Atlantic Forest, in the Northeast, Chapada Diamantina (Bahia) and southeastern Brazil in ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ).

Phenology:— Flowering April–December.

Etymology:— The name honours Aldo Andrich, who collected the type.

Taxonomic notes:— This species has flowers with brownish green sepals and petals and a white lip densely streaked with pink, sometimes with white margins. The lip callus is trifid and elongate, and the midlobe varies from deltoid to rounded; the lateral lobes are elliptic, at an angle ˂45° to the midlobe when the flattened lip.

Encycia andrichii is similar to E. seidelii Pabst (1976: 81) , a species that also occurs in Minas Gerais, but unlike E. andrichii it grows only on rocks and has shorter, more rounded lateral lobes than the former and thick, stiff leaves, characters, also distinctive relative to the remaining Brazilian species of the genus ( Pabst 1976).

Recently, E. kundergraberi , E. santanae and E. zaslawskiana were synonymised under E. andrichii (Bastos et al. 2015) . The geographical distribution (Bahia, Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais), morphological similarities and broad overlap in the intraspecific variation were the basis for this decision.
