Type:— BOLIVIA. La Paz: Lacarejá, vicniis Sorata , 3200 m, January–March 1860, G. Mandon 1137, (lectotype: W! isolectotypes: AMES! G x2! K! NY! P x3! S! W x3!) See Santiago & Hágsater, Epidendrum scopulorum in Hágsater & Sánchez 2009: t. 1291 .

Distribution: — Bolivia and Peru in the department of Puno. In Peru it is found near Lake Titicaca, the other records are for Bolivia.

Notes:— Epidendrum scopulorum is recognized by the lanceolate, erect leaves, nearly parallel to the stems, the flowers violet-purple,the sepals 9mm long, the lip cordiform, obtuse, and the calli parallel. Epidendrum cartilaginiflorum is similar leaves in size and position, but the sepals are 15–16 mm long, the lip cordiform, apex rounded, and the calli divaricate.

Conservation Status:— DD. Data deficient. As most orchids, listed in CITES appendix II.
