Distribution and habitat: — Eugenia pachnantha is known from collections from the state of Bahia in the Atlantic rainforest of Brazil, and these are the first occurrence of the species in Espírito Santo state. In the RNV, the species is found in the Mata Alta and Muçununga vegetation.

Phenology: —Flowering in September through January; fruiting in January through August ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ).

Taxonomic comments: —The species can be assigned to Eugenia sect. Umbellatae due to its inflorescences in glomerules or fascicles, and bracteoles persistent in the fruit. The species is easily distinguished from all other species in RNV by its leaf blades with acute, obtuse or attenuate base, two marginal veins, inflorescences in glomerules or fascicles with pedicels up to 4 mm long, flowers with pubescent hypanthium and calyx lobes puberulent or glabrous, and bracteoles persistent in the fruit.
