6. Glyphidops (Glyphidops) ruselatus , new species
( Figs. 6 View FIGURE 6 A–H, 15B)
Diagnosis. Frontal vitta yellow with wide blackish-brown “Y” shaped stripe from anterior margin of frons to ocellar tubercle. Two pairs of well-developed fronto-orbital setae, anterior pair inconspicuous. Postgena wide with median longitudinal bend. First flagellomere elliptic, tapering towards apex. Arista apical with short white pubescence on proximal half and distal half brown. Pleuron with yellow stripe from anterior margin of postpronotal lobe to anepimeron and posterior half of katepisternum to mid coxa.
Male. Body length 10.8 mm. Wing length 9.2 mm and width 2.4 mm. Brown with head and thorax partly yellow ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 A).
Head. Moderately elongate in dorsal view; dorsal length 1.7 mm and width 1.6 mm. Frontal vitta yellow, except for wide blackish-brown “Y” shaped stripe from the anterior margin of frons to ocellar tubercle ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 C); fronto-orbital plate black with two pairs of well-developed fronto-orbital setae, anterior pair inconspicuous. Postocellar seta slightly convergent, length 2.5 times transverse diameter of ocellar tubercle; inner vertical seta straight and subequal to outer vertical seta; outer vertical seta curved, divergent and 70% length of postocellar seta. Genal seta length, one third length of postocellar seta. Postgena wide and ventrally rounded; with median longitudinal bend. Occiput height 2.3 times length ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 D). Antennal base brown. Antenna length, half that of head. Scape yellow with dorsal black spot; 0.3 mm long. Pedicel same color as scape; 0.3 mm long; inner process of pedicel wide at base and tapering distally, with pointed apex. First flagellomere elliptic tapering towards apex; yellow, darkened dorsally; 0.7 mm long; length 2.3 times width. Arista apical with short white pubescence on proximal half and distal half brown.
Thorax. Pleuron with yellow stripe from anterior margin of postpronotal lobe to anepimeron and posterior half of katepisternum to mid coxa. Anterior notopleural seta absent. Posterior notopleural seta length 80% length of scutellar seta. Supra-alar seta very slender. Postalar seta lost. Dorsocentral seta less than half length of scutellar seta. Scutellum rounded with distal margin narrow; scutellar seta setae straight, 60% length of scutellum. Proepisternum with five anteroventral setulae. Katepisternal seta absent. Katatergite yellow; length twice height. Meron yellow anteriorly, as part of the pleural yellow stripe. Metepimeron yellow.
Legs. Mid coxa yellow with two lateral setae on conical tubercles. Femora subshiny yellowish-brown with distal yellow ring; mid femur anteriorly with three median setae.
Wing ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 E) Basicosta with dorsal weak seta and ventral seta stronger. Halter whitish-yellow.
Abdomen. Dark brown with bluish reflections. Syntergite 7+8 shiny brown. Epandrium shiny brown ( Figs. 6 View FIGURE 6 F–G).
Variation. Body length 8.4–10.2 mm. Wing length 8.4–9.1 mm and width 2.0– 2.2 mm. Head. Elongate; length 1.6–2.1 and width 1.2–1.4. Occiput height, 1.7–2.0 times length. Thorax. Postalar seta subequal to dorsocentral seta. Katatergite brown. Legs. Mid coxa with one anteroventral seta. Femora brown with conspicuous yellow. Mid femur anteriorly with two median setae. Wing. Basicosta without dorsal seta.
Female. Similar to male, differs as follows: body length 8.1–8.4 mm ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 B). Wing length 7.7–8.0 mm and width 2.1–2.3 mm. Fore coxa without antero-apical seta. Mid coxa with one lateral seta. Mid femur anteriorly with one median seta. One female with knob dark brown. Oviscape shiny brown with distal margin yellow; length, 2.5– 3.0 times maximum width ( Figs. 6 View FIGURE 6 H–I).
Etymology. This new species is named ruselatus , a composed word from Latin “rus” (country, land) and “elatus” (high), referring to the Colombian highlands where was collected.
Comments. Glyphidops (Glyphidops) ruselatus is described from Colombia at altitudes between 1700– 2400m. One specimen with slightly darker frons, was found in the Natural Reserve Limoncocha, Ecuador, between 250 and 750m altitude.
