Goeppertia koernickeana (Regel) J.M.A.Braga View in CoL , comb. nov.

Basionym: — Calathea koernickeana Regel (1874: 33) View in CoL , non Petersen (1890b: 330).

Type:— Lectotype, Regel (1874): t. 784, designated here.

Notes:—Without any diagnosis or illustration, Horaninow (1862: 12) mentions the name Calathea koernickeana and includes “ Calathea brasiliensis Koern. ms” as a synonym, effectively published by Koernicke (1862: 118). Thus, the name given by Horanimow (1862) is a nomen nudum, which, consequently, invalidates the transfer to Goeppertia by Borchsenius & S.Suárez (2012). However, the name Calathea koernickeana was effectively published by Regel (1874) for another species different from that mentioned by Horaninow (1862) and Koernicke (1862). Soon after, Petersen (1890b) made later a homonym, which is now treated as a synonym of Goeppertia variegata (K.Koch) Borchsenius & S.Suárez (2012: 635) . Thus, the transfer of Calathea koernickeana Regel (1874) to Goeppertia is here proposed.
